The Importance of the Drawing by Swanzal Kak Kapoor

Not enough attention is ever given to the importance of the sketch, and the architectural drawing as a mode of representation,as the ‘voice’ of an architectural practice, and as a means of bridging the visual gap between the studio, the client and the multitude of hands(and hearts!) that guide a project from inception to completion.
At saka studio, our drawings are the foundation of every project we undertake as a team.
What cannot be emphasised enough here,is the importance of a mentor.
I consider myself very fortunate that my earliest mentors were Ashok B. Lall, Revathi and Vasant Kamath, and later at the School of Planning and Architecture,Ravindra Bhan,Abhimanyu Dalal and K.T. Ravindran.
Of course, the foundational years were the incredible Robert Gutowski,my genius Art Teacher at the International School Bangkok,Thailand and later the incredible faculty at The Institute of Environmental Design,Vallabh VidyaNagar,Gujarat.
The drawing is the Source,Root and Medium.
It is the bedrock of each creative project.
And at saka studio: our drawings are special.
